MotoGP - Portuguese GP Valentino Rossi stormed to his fourth pole position of the year, followed by team-mate Colin Edwards. In the 250cc class, Locatelli claimed his maiden pole in this class and Alvaro Bautista will start from pole in the 125cc race.

WRC - Turkey Rally Marcus Gronholm ended the second day of Rally Turkey with a huge lead (2:05.2 over his team-mate Mikko Hirvonen), after Petter Solberg crashed out of second place late in the afternoon.
